7.5 crore saplings to be planted in Odisha this year: CM

Bhubaneswar(By Abhishek Mohanty): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said the state government has decided to plant 7.5 crore saplings this year to combat climate change.

Addressing the state-level World Environment Day function in Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister said, "The state government has already planted over 6.5 crore trees under the “Ek Ped Maa Ki Nam” initiative with an aim to create a greener environment and preserve nature. Preservation of the environment can be an easy and simple way to live a healthy life for future generations."

The CM highlighted that plastic has become indispensable in daily life. Excessive use of plastic has posed problems like climate change, erosion and pollution of nature's water, land and biodiversity, and the problem of garbage. Public awareness plays a vital role in reducing plastic use. "

The Clean Air Programme of the government will reduce air pollution in densely populated urban areas and improve air quality in the atmosphere, he added.
