CENTRE TO PROVIDE FREE FOOD GRAINS TO ELIGIBLE CITIZENS FOR ANOTHER FIVE YEARS
New Delhi (29/11/2023): The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved that the Centre will provide free food grains to 81.35 crore eligible citizens for another five years under the Garib Kalyan Food Grain Programme.
An amount of Rs 11.80 lakh crore will be spent in the next five years on food subsidy under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. The programme was launched during the COVID pandemic.
Under the programme, ration card holders were entitled to receive an additional 5 kg grains (wheat or rice of individual's choice).
Chana was also being provided as part of the additional food distribution programme.
