In the era when Odishi dance was grappling with neglect, one man emerged as its savior, the indefatigable Dr. Dibakar Mishra. He envisioned a brighter future for this ancient art form, tirelessly working to establish an Odishi dance school that would not only preserve the rich Odishi culture but also propel it into the limelight.
With unwavering determination, Dr. Mishra founded the "Gandharva Kala Parishad," a testament to his relentless labor and dedication. It was no small feat, considering his background as a high-ranking officer in the postal central government job. Despite his demanding career, he remained resolute in his commitment to Odishi dance.
Dr. Mishra's journey was marked by a deep love for Odisha's culture and tradition. He was not content merely to dream; he transformed dreams into reality. His resolute belief in the classical essence of Odishi dance drove him to establish an Odishi branch in Chandigarh, far from its roots, yet so close to his heart.
Moreover, Dr. Mishra's legacy extended beyond the dance school. He served as the secretary of Prachina Kala kendra's Chandigarh Branch, further strengthening his connection to the world of arts. In 1975, he brought his dream to fruition, establishing the Gandharva Kala Parishad in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Today, this institution stands as a temple of creativity and a source of immense pride for Odisha. Its significance in preserving Odishi dance and music is immeasurable, and for this, all credit goes to the visionary Dr. Dibakar Mishra.
His contributions weren't limited to education. Dr. Mishra delved into the analysis of Odisha's temple statues and composed classical songs, all while maintaining a thriving homeopathic medical practice. His journey to success was undoubtedly supported by his wife, Basanti Mishra, whose unwavering encouragement created a nurturing environment for his pursuits.
Remarkably, Dr. Dibakar Mishra was never one to boast or exhibit pride. He remained humble and dedicated to his mission, never seeking accolades for his selfless work.
Today, as we gather to commemorate his life, we must remember Dr. Dibakar Mishra's unyielding dedication to the world of Odishi dance. He lives on in the hearts and memories of those he inspired, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of Odisha.
