Fakir Mohan University Observes National Space Day with Academic Rigor

Balasore | 23rd August 2025(Krushna Kumar Mohanty) Fakir Mohan University commemorated National Space Day with an academically enriched program that highlighted India’s remarkable journey in space research and its future aspirations.

Organized by the Post Graduate Departments, the event sought to stimulate scholarly dialogue, foster interdisciplinary learning, and inspire students to engage with the frontiers of space science and technology.

Presiding over the program, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy emphasized the relevance of space studies in the modern era, drawing connections between astrophysics, aerospace engineering, computational modeling, and environmental sciences. He urged scholars to contextualize space research within broader challenges of sustainability, climate change, and technological sovereignty.

The occasion was graced by Dr. Jajati Kesari Nayak (Scientist-G, VECC, Kolkata) as Guest of Honour and Dr. Pravakar Mallick (Scientist-F, ITR, DRDO-Balasore) as Chief Speaker. Their keynote addresses traced India’s space odyssey from the launch of Aryabhata in 1975 to landmark missions like Chandrayaan-3, Aditya-L1, and the forthcoming Gaganyaan. They underscored how scientific innovation and technological resilience have propelled India into the global space leadership arena.

Scholarly discussions and presentations explored advanced themes such as:

Satellite-based remote sensing for ecological and environmental monitoring

Innovations in space communication and navigation systems

Artificial intelligence in mission design and space robotics

Socio-economic implications of space technologies for developing nations


The program began with a welcome address by Prof. Santosh Kumar Agarwal (HoD, Physics) and was witnessed by Prof. Bhaskar Behera, Chairman, PG Council. Participants reached a consensus that space science, as a knowledge domain, requires sustained research engagement, international collaboration, and pedagogical innovation.

Concluding the event, Dr. Rajib Biswal delivered the vote of thanks, while the proceedings were conducted by Dr. Bibekananda Nayak.
