Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty):
The National Commission of Women has taken cognisance of the incident of Balasore Fakir Mohan Autonomous College student Soumyasree Bisi's self-immolation case and sought an Action Taken Report from the concerned authorities within three days.
The Commission directed DGP YB Khurania to ensure a fair and time-bound investigation, take strict action against the accused, and extend all necessary medical and psychological support to the victim free of cost.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the health condition of the girl student at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The Chief Minister assured that strict action will be taken after receiving the inquiry report. The state government will place special emphasis on elimination of harassment and ragging in educational institutions across the state.
Earlier in the day, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj also visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar and took stock of the health condition of the girl identified as Soumyasree Bisi.
The Ministers held discussion with the family members of the victim and the doctors.
Soumyasree, who set herself ablaze outside the Principal's Chamber on July 12, continues to remain on ventilator support. She has sustained 90-95 percent burn injuries.
An eight-member medical panel comprising specialists from critical care, nephrology, surgery, pulmonology, and anastasia has been constituted at AIIMS for round-the-clock monitoring.
