Two human cases of bird flu detected in Odisha: Minister

Bhubaneswar (28/08/2024): Two human cases of bird flu have been detected in Odisha.
This was informed by Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokula Nanda Mallik on Wednesday. The Minister said, "Samples were sent to Bhopal from Pipili and Sakhigopal in Puri district, and the reports came out positive for bird flu.
So far, 30,000 chickens have been culled.
However, no restriction has been imposed on consuming chicken in the areas not affected by bird flu.
The state government has decided to provide compensation to farmers.
It has been decided to pay Rs 20 for each small chicken and Rs 70 for each large chicken." Meanwhile, the Public Health department has clarified that there is no confirmed report of bird flu in humans.
Samples have been collected from a person in Puri who showed symptoms.
The report will come out within seven days.
