Earth Day Celebrated at Fakir Mohan University on the Theme "Our Planet, Our Power"

Balasore, 24/04 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): Fakir Mohan University, in collaboration with the North Odisha Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCi), Balasore, observed the 55th Earth Day on April 22. The theme for Earth Day 2025 was “Our Planet, Our Power.”
Dr. Ashok Kumar Panigrahi, retired professor from F.M. Autonomous College, Balasore, and Dr. Asit Kumar Swain, Director, Geological Survey of India, Bhubaneswar, were invited as the chief guests for the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Santosh Kumar Tripathy, presided over the event. In his address, he encouraged students to preserve the planet through long-term sustainable practices and to adopt mindful habits to minimize pollution and protect Mother Earth.
Dr. Panigrahi discussed environmental regulatory systems and emphasized the need for extensive research in areas such as afforestation, agriculture, organic management, waste management, and horticulture. He shared practical insights and examples from his experience.
Dr. Swain addressed the gathering on topics such as water scarcity, rare mineral exploration, and various associated environmental challenges.
Professor Bhaskar Behera, Chairman of the Postgraduate Council, also spoke on the occasion, educating the students on environmental conservation and ecological balance.
Faculty members from the Departments of Geology, Geography, and Environmental Science were present and elaborated on the significance of Earth Day to the students.
The event was conducted by Dr. Smrutirekha Sahu, and a vote of thanks was proposed by Harish Patel, Secretary of NOCCi, Balasore. Additionally, students showcased informative presentations as part of the program.
